Auction Results: January 2025

Michael Bowman's first auction of 2025 was a typically buoyant New Year event.

The undoubted star of the day was a small acrylic & pencil drawing by the American Pop Artist, Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004). The postcard-sized 'California Nude' had been given to the vendor by her father about 15 years ago when he was living in Bedfordshire.  She recalls that her father loved to scour auctions and fairs for bargains, never liking to pay too much.  A collector in North London was willing to pay £15,200 for his find!

A rare ceramic entry, was the Mediaeval glazed  pottery jug believed to have been unearthed during the building of Norwich Town Hall in the early 20th century.  This small, plain jug, just 4.5" high, returned to Norwich courtesy of an internet bidder for £1,500.

Watches featured a boxed 2002 stainless steel Rolex Submariner, which was bought by a Lancashire internet bidder for £5,200 and a 2010 Explorer II which stayed locally at £4,800.  A boxed stainless steel Omega Seamaster GMT sold to a collector for £1,300.

Jewellery was led by the French platinum 3 carat old cut diamond solitaire, bought by a telephone bidder for £8,900..  A 7 carat purple sapphire & diamond cluster ring sold for £3,300 to a local collector, whilst a Hatton Garden jeweller paid £2,800 for a diamond set 18ct white gold bangle.
