Auction Results: July 2024
Michael Bowman's July 27th auction at Chudleigh saw strong local bidding competing against internet interest, resulting in many impressive results!
A scruffy-looking Zenith sports chronograph watch had modest hopes of just a few hundred pounds. The button functions weren't working but this was an early example, dating to around 1970 and collectors are attracted by the fact that Zenith supplied similar movements for use by Rolex. Serious interest was shown by bidders in Switzerland and the USA but the successful bidder was a local collector who paid £3,200 for his prize!
An internet buyer from Kent paid £4,700 for the bi-metal Rolex Datejust 160 with original box & paperwork showing purchase in Scotland in 2000.
Other watches included the boxed lady's 18ct gold bracelet Longines which sold for £1,100 and 18ct gold hunter cased pocket watch, selling for £1,900 to internet bidders.
A certified natural 3.2 carat colour change pink Ceylon sapphire sold for an above estimate £3,600 and a 4 carat blue sapphire made £2,100, both staying in Devon. An 18ct gold watch chain with a Masonic pendant also stayed locally at £2,000, whilst an 18ct gold charm bracelet went to an internet bidder in Sheffield for £2,800.
An attractive modern diamond set white gold bracelet was pave set with numerous rectangular and round cut stones having total weight of approximately 6 carats. It had been bought 17 years ago in the Chudleigh auction for £2,500 but was now surplus to requirements and given a cautious estimate of £3,000-4,000. Two local ladies each took a real shine to the bracelet, becoming embroiled in an intense bidding duel that finally ended at no less than £10,300!
